Providing quilts to comfort and thank our heroes - military, police and firemen.
Actively seek heroes (military, police and firemen) to honor and thank through a gift of a personally crafted quilt. Our mission is to reach as many of our heroes as possible to gift one of our pieced/quilted works of art to show our appreciation for their service. If you know of a "hero" who should be recognized, please contact us at the POC email address.

Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 2005.
What is your primary product or service?
Gifting heroes; either military, police or firemen, with a hand made quilt to comfort and thank them for their service.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
As a quilter, I spent many years gifting quilts personally to family and friends. In 2005 after 9/11 and seeing our veterans returning from the Middle East conflicts, I decided I needed to follow in the footsteps of our grandmothers and their mothers, who throughout history made and presented quilts to honor their heroes. I needed to continue their tradition, so I founded our non-profit 501c3 organization and recruited local quilters to join me.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Our organization differs from the national, Quilts of Valor, because we are a Harford County organization that searches for heroes...not just military heroes, but also police and firemen.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We currently work in our own homes and meet weekly to consult, encourage each other and share ideas and patterns.
Provide detailed directions to your location
Currently we meet at the Aberdeen Proving Ground Chapel at the Edgewood Area.....following Rt 24 south till arriving at the Aberdeen Proving Ground security gate. After providing I.D. and vehicle registration to the guards, continue straight through the gate, continuing straight through the ONLY traffic light (crossing over Magnolia Road), continue to the FIRST STOP SIGN. At that stop sign, turn right and the Chapel is on your left. We meet in the Fellowship Hall from 5:00PM till 8:00PM on Monday evenings....excluding Holidays and when schools are closed for weather. Call prior to stopping by.
What type of payments do you accept?
We do not accept payments as we do not charge for the quilts. However we do accept donations, checks made payable to: "Quilts for Heroes" so that we can continue to provide materials for our quilters.
Which areas do you service?
We like to service local heroes, but have presented quilts all across the country. Many of our quilts were presented by Chaplains at Walter Reed while most recently, in Jan 2016, we presented quilts to 27 of the ORIGINAL Tuskegee Airmen from the Washington, DC Chapter and a group of WWII Marines. Now we are donating quilts to University of Maryland, Upper Chesapeake Hospitals in borh Bel Air and Havre de Grace for presentation to veterans who are treated there as patients.
Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
Quilts for Heroes is a non-profit organization but the most active officers are, myself: Carol Hansen, Founder; and Brenda Aleman, Treasurer.
What are your hours of operation?
Mondays, 5-8PM
What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
We love getting "thank you(s)" from the recipients of our quilts. If we can make them understand how special that we think they are, we've done our job.
What is your favorite quote or Bible verse?
Deuteronomy 16:17
“Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD your God which He has given you.”
I love this verse because I believe we are all given talents and we should use those gifts for good. We are giving, as quilters, as God has given us the gift of being able to quilt, so that our quilts can comfort our heroes.
