Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
Since 1983 / 35 years.
What is your primary product or service?
shoe and leather repair.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Back when i was in college. I applied for a full time position with the world's largest shoe repair company. I was hired, completed their intense training program and within six months was running one of their stores. after eighteen months I was promoted to Area Supervisor and then eventually to Area Manager. I held that position for six years until the company went out of business in the U.S. Ultimately I ended up completely going out on my own by opening my own shoe repair business in 1991. Clarke's Express Shoe Repair was born.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I provide a unique service in this day and age in a craft that many people believe is dying.
I take great pride in every item I recraft. From shoes to boots to handbags to leather coats I always try to find the best possible solution for each and every one of my customer's needs.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
I currently have two locations with no plans to expand at this time.
I do all of the repairs for both of my shops so therefore the shops have limited hours of operation. This ensures that all of my customers will be talking with me or my son about exactly how we can take care of your shoe and leather repair needs.
